I understand where his lack of understanding/mistrust stems from but he piled on the blame to someone who has only ever done her best to help him right his name.Īside from that, this was an interesting read from Lily Danes! Gabe was otherwise a decent protagonist to read, a good guy with good bones who'd been dealt wrong, his life taking the most unfortuante turns because of the sacrifices he made. Not only did this make me question his character choice (because it really didn't hold much validity) but the conflict this presented was a bit shallow and an unfounded way to incite some conflict. What really grated against my experience with this one, though, was Gabe's ridiculous accusations against Maddie during a final parting type scenario. It's not often that I read romantic mysteries, but I'm always game to give them a try because the entanglements of suspense really do spice up a narrative's plot in a game of questions, and that's something to look forward to! A nicely bound plot of suspenseful mystery coiled around a romance, with the added setting of a hush-hush town embroiled secretively in the lower levels of corruption.
